Cleaning Tips, Part 1

Welcome to the first update of our new website. We have been so busy recently that this blog is way overdue. The summer months are our busiest time of year. As a commercial cleaning company we carry out a wide range of cleaning services, one of which is block cleaning. This is the cleaning of apartments forming part of a block, many of which are occupied by students. In approximately August and September a large volume of students move into the city and we spend a great deal of time getting their new homes ready for them to move into.

As most students are settled into their new accommodation I thought it would be a good time to share some of our cleaning tips which have come in useful when cleaning apartments, particularly for some of the dirtiest areas of our cleans. These tips can be used in your office or even at home:

Toilet Cleaning: This is often the worst part of our job but we have found that using liquids containing citric acid is particularly effective. The acid works like a scrubber to remove stains and leaves the toilet sparkling. Simply pour the liquid into the toilet bowl, leave for 30 minute and flush.

Cook the Sponge: Sponges are a breeding ground for bacteria. To disinfect yours without using harsh chemicals simply rinse and squeeze out the water then pop it into the microwave on a high setting for a minute.

Smelly Sinks: To get rid of bad sink odors, cut a lemon or lime in half and squeeze the juice down the sink. The lemon will deodorise the smell. Make sure you clean the sink first otherwise it will undo all of your odour removing efforts.

Sparkling shower: Rub a teaspoon of lemon oil on glass shower doors. This causes the water to bead up and roll off and for your shower doors to look cleaner for longer.

Revive your shower curtain: Don’t throw away your mouldy looking shower curtain, throw it in the wash with a few towels. The towels will act as a scrubber to remove any mould and mildew. Once the curtain has been washed, simply hang it up to dry.

We hope our cleaning tips come in useful. We will be posting more tips in the not too distant future.
